I don’t know why but match fixing has always been the talk of the town in cricketing circle. Once again, it has been started. This time by none other than Australian great Steve Waugh who is of the opinion that International Cricket Council (ICC) is simply not good enough to completely remove this menace from the gentleman game.
According to Waugh,
“I think it is disgusting, but what do you do to stop it? I don’t think the ICC knows how to stop it or it would have been stopped before. Really it’s about the players, they have to put their hands up and say I’m 100% or sign declarations.”
Player signing some sort of declaration to eradicate match fixing from cricket sounds a very good idea but million-dollar question is: Whether it is feasible or not? Most of the Australians, English and South Africans believe that match fixing is only there in Asian countries, particularly in India and Pakistan but the fact is lots of players from Australia, England and South Africa are found to be involved in match fixing in the past. Who can forget Hansie Cronje, Mark Waugh and great Shane Warne?
